Marius Bostan, the Romanian Minister of Communications has launched at “Communications Day” Conference a challenge to the local operators and businesses: “let’s built the first smart city in Romania by 2018, and let this city be Alba Iulia.”
The plan is to launch the smart city project in September 2016 and to end it until December 1, 2018, when Romania celebrates 100 years from its Union. Alba Iulia should be the first in Romania where the 5G communication technology will be available, in a pilot project, the Minister said.
Alba Iulia was chosen because of its advanced and rigorous long-term development strategy, launched in 2002-2003. It also has the highest absorption rate of EU funds, and also started having a smart transport system.
